ANIMA CHRISTI
Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O Good Jesus, hear me.
In your wounds, hide me.
Apart from you let me never be.
From the enemy, defend me.
At the hour of my death, call me.
And close to you bid me,
that with your saints I may always be
praising you eternally. Amen.
~ The Anima Christi has been attributed to St. Ignatius of Loyola as it appears in his famous work, “Spiritual Exercises.” Its true authorship remains uncertain and historians believe that it predates St. Ignatius by more than a century. The sublime prayer has been found in books and manuscripts which were written many years before his birth.
(ECCE HOMO by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo )
