*** *** *** thirty pieces of silver…

Spy Wednesday marks the day when Jesus was betrayed by Judas, the spy for the chief priests.
~ “Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, ‘What will you give me if I deliver him to you?’ And they paid him thirty pieces of silver. And from that moment he sought an opportunity to betray him.” (Mt 26: 14-16)
— Today, some churches offer ‘Tenebrae’ (Latin for darkness): a solemn service focusing on the story of Christ’s Passion; psalms and readings are chanted by candlelight.
