St. Bernard was a Cistercian abbot and preacher who fought for peace and unity within the Church and against Schism

He wrote many treatises on Jesus Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary as well as on theology and asceticism. He manifested the importance of obedience in living the spiritual life.
